Down jackets: duvets and gilets

You want to stay warm but you don't want to carry the extra weight of a Snorkel Parka, however cool that may be. Suitable for a range of activities from walking through the park, climbing Mont Blanc or shivering over a keyboard in an unheated office..

Our range of down clothing includes two models featuring mens and womens specific cuts and 5 excellent colours to choose from. We use 90/10 700 (EU) Fill Power goosedown throughout to ensure an excellent warmth / weight ratio.

Filo down jacket

When the cold really bites you may appreciate a full down jacket with a hood. Filo is a lightweight down jacket that uses a stitch-through construction for warmth without the weight penalty.

Filet down vest

Following on the success of the Filo is the Filet goose down vest. This has all the great features of the Filo minus the arms! a real bonus when it is not so chilly or you are engaged in manual work such as chopping logs. When a full down jacket is excessive just throw on your down vest, Filet is a practical layer of insulation that you will want to take anywhere.

Our down jackets are stuffed with 90/10 700+ (European scale) fill power white goose down. For more information about down see our down information page. The four panel construction should fit the body better which means less cold air circulating around your body as you move around..

Design

All of our down jackets use a stitch-through construction, for warmth without the weight penalty. This is a proven method of stitching together down jackets. A fleecy lining on the collar will keep your neck extra cosy warm. The shell material is constructed from Micro Ripstop Nylon with a DWR coating. It is soft, compressible and quiet.

Ladies Cut Filet

New for 2008.. Wider hips, nipped in at the waist and slightly roomier cut at the chest. The Ladies Filet vest is available in three sizes; S, M, L. This should cover sizes from 10 up to 16. As there are only three sizes, it difficult for us to say what the UK dress size is. The best advice we can give is ignore the labels, measure a jacket you fit in and find the closest match.

Sizing notes

Don't choose a Medium jacket just because the last tshirt you purchased from the high-street was a medium. Some people prefer a tight jacket, some go baggy, some like to wear it over another jacket, some like to expose their hairy chest and wear it next to the skin.

The Alpkit Fit. Please remember that these are technical garments, they are designed to function with the rest of your clothing system. For this particular garment we are assuming you will be wearing a baselayer and a fleece. So if you are a sized 40 chest we recommend you choose a Alpkit Medium for a snug fit over a baselayer and fleece. If you know you are going to be slinging it over your shell as a belay jacket you should take a size up. Please refer to the individual size charts in the shop.

* Why not pair up a Filo and Filet as a flexible expedition system. Choose a Filo a size up from your Filet and wear it over the top. Simple, effective and you get three jackets in one!

* Don't lend it to your other half.. you may not get it back again.

* Look after your jacket and it will keep you warm. Read the care instructions and wash it from time to time!
